"Switzerland"
From what Dick said in the live gig, 'Night Vision' and 'Pink Flamingos' will be on upcoming album 'Switzerland'. The
other track 'I Don't Speak French' will not be on by my reckoning as he said he only wrote it two weeks ago and the album was actually
recorded in November!
As for 'Pink Flamingos', it's a strange track. Not sure if it bears any resemblance to the 1972 film of the same name?

Review of 'American Troubador' tour: 30th April 2006, York
It was bank holiday which guaranteed the weather was going to be less than perfect. However, this didn't stop fans of
Electric Six turning up at Fibbers for the third gig of Dick Valentine's solo UK acoustic tour, a tour which came around
after a successful acoustic night in Manchester in 2004. Though Fibbers wasn't exactly full with people, those that were
there enjoyed the excellent opening support act of Freddie Stevenson and the arrival of Dick Valentine on stage.
With the small stage occupied only by Valentine, in a shirt with the word 'Greece' written under the UK flag, and his
guitar, it was a complete parallel to the full stage when Electric Six had visited York the previous year as part of their
'Senor Smoke' tour. The audience were also less animated, treating the acoustic set with more reverence and less bounding
about.
Having kicked off with a cover of Devo's 'Snowball', Valentine went into a rendition of 'Jimmy Carter' (a song that was
bound to have been played) before following that with 'She's Guatemala' and 'She's White'. These tracks were followed by a
cover of 'When I Won The Lottery' and a different, but just as effective, rendition of 'Dance Commander'. Then followed the
new material.
'Night Vision' and 'Pink Flamingos' are both off the upcoming 'Switzerland' record. For the former, Valentine sought the
help of two female fans to sing the secondary vocals which brought the song even more to life than it was already. The
latter was not welcomed as much, probably because it was a slower track. It was also the first time anyone in the room had
heard these tracks so they have yet to enter the consciousness of the fans. Promising hits, Valentine delivered with
renditions of 'Vengeance and Fashion', 'I'm on Acid' (which seemed to puzzle the crowd who obviously weren't familiar with
their earlier pre-Fire material) and a new track that I shall call 'Parlez-vous You'. These two songs were grouped together
as the first track Valentine wrote and the latest track he wrote; two weeks ago to be precise, meaning it was too late to
appear on upcoming album 'Switzerland'. The song was well received though and the last line sent a genuine laugh running
through the crowd listening. There were however some mutterings about wanting more hits; presumably tracks such as 'Danger!
High Voltage' and 'Dance Epidemic', but I feel they didn't grasp the idea of the acoustic night, playing tracks that would
normally not go down at a rocking 'Electric Six' concert but would really go down well acoustically.
Tracks 'I Invented The Night' and 'Rock and Roll Evacuation' followed, offering a refreshing different sound to these
tracks. The latter was accompanied by chants of 'No no no no no no no no no' from the audience and, of course, 'You don't
know how to rock!' This was another point of animation from the crowd after the chants of 'yeah yeah yeah' during 'She's
White'. Valentine even treated the audience to a very rare live appearance of 'The International Symbol For Radiation' from
his 'Smog Cutter Love Story' album which was a great treat. Another cover followed, plus a hilarious skit about Jack White,
Valentine's tongue firmly in his cheek and finally confirming rumours of the guest vocals on their breakthrough hit.
Then, of course, came 'Gay Bar', a track that wasn't originally meant to be in the show but he'd added anyway. For this
he brought loads of the audience on stage (plus the support act) to sing along with him, which was a great move and one
that made the number even more memorable, especially when some fans got the words wrong! The set was brought to a close by
another cover, though the session was extended by a well-requested encore of 'Synthesiser'.
Though the set was shorter than some 'Electric Six' gigs and some expected numbers were missed off (I would have like to
have heard 'The Ballade of MC Sucka DJ') it would seem churlish to complain when everyone there was treated to an hour of
great music that combined older material, current material, new material and covers, songs that showed Valentine really can
sing perfectly and play a guitar, whilst also adding subtle hints of humour, such as the shout of 'solo' during 'The
International Symbol For Radiation' when that was what he was already doing (!) and the banter between him and the crowd
(especially his response to shouts of 'We want Dick!' - 'I've not heard that one before!).
The night concluded with Valentine meeting up with his fans, never looking nervous or impatient as he was asked to sign
everything from scraps of paper to posters to ticket stubs whilst being bombarded with fan after fan trying to get his
attention and autograph. The night could be summed up by the words of a female fan talking to her friend behind me.
'This is one of the best nights of my life.'
